Setting up for a Gliding Club
Once off, First time setup
- Open the box
- Think of a name for the tracker - e.g. 'Cirrus'
- Write/Engrave that name and the club name onto the unit
- Open the back of the unit to get the numbers
- Use these numbers in "set up account" - see below
- Test the unit - see below
Set up account
- When setting up an account - put ALL of your SPOTs on the one account.
- This is not essential, but it does make things easier.
- Create only one profile - again not essential but it does make things easier. Add each spot to that one profile. Use the club name or something that make sense.
- Open the back of the SPOT, read the ESN and follow the instructions that came with the SPOT.
- Setup the tracker by plugging in the batteries as per instructions
Create public access
Once you have created and added all your SPOT units, you need to create a public URL for viewing and use in http://track.glidingmaps.com/
- Click the "SHARE" Tab
- Enter a name for the page
- Select ALL your SPOTs
- Make it Public (NO password)
- Use the URL with friends, family, club members - or register it at an event
Testing the unit
- Turn on the units - see Field instructions below
- Go to the public URL you have above
- Make sure you can see the gliders
From turning them on, to getting a satellite lock, to getting them on the page, can take up to 20 minutes.
On field instructions
Here is some instructions recommended for including with the SPOT. They can be put on a sticker or swing tag.
- Turn on SPOT & Tracking
- Click and hold ON/OFF for 2 seconds - light will start flashing
- Wait 5 seconds
- Click and hold OK for 6 seconds - until OK light goes out
- Check that OK and ON/OFF light flash together every 5 seconds
- Turn OFF SPOT
- Click and hold ON/OFF for 5 seconds - check lights are out
- HELP - Send a message that you have outlanded
- Click and hold HELP for 5 seconds
- 911/Emergency - This will call emergency services - you will be charged for false call outs
- Click and hold 911 for 5 seconds
